Australia: Whitsunday Islands – South Molle Island (1995)

South Molle Island, part of the Whitsunday Islands, is a resort island in the Whitsunday section of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park in Australia. The hilly island has numerous bays and inlets accessible by 16 km of walking and cycling tracks, with most protected in the Molle Islands National Park

🙂 Diving, Snorkelling – Whitsundays!

🙁 Ran up a massive phone bill

Booked a stay at South Molle Island where paul had stayed with his family when he was 10 years old. Sadly the island resort closed in 2016.

We parked our van and took the ferry.

What a wonderful adventure island – it felt like a holiday from our holiday! We did Archery. HUGE lunch. Trent swimming and snorkelling perfectly. People were all astounded that he was so young and complimented his ability! Did a walk around the island which is stunning. Met a nice couple called Allen & Connie. We had Trent babysat by hotel and headed off for cocktails and played Bingo. Paul won a bottle of champagne! Then they asked for volunteers who wanted a free cocktail so I went up – I had to hold a cane toad – which was absolutely fine! It was HUGE! We then had a small argument and I called the world from our room – $800 bill 🙁

Up early to dive – feeling hungover! Met a nice girl from UK who knew Justin and VJ from Esher! Viz fantastic! Two dives. Saw black reef tip sharks. Trent loved snorkelling. Connie and Allen asked us over for drinks – Trent begged to be babysat?! LOL.

The next few days were blissful – sunbathing, beach, banana rides… played squash – too hot! Fished. Went for romantic dinner as paul had won an a la carte meal with champagne with the toad race. Up early and walked to Oyster Bay – saw millions of fruit bats hanging in trees! Found stick insect. Went for a swim but sea water was ht! Back to swim in pool instead to cool off. Enjoyed cocktail hour and bed – final night … we would miss this place!

Up at 08h30 – bless, Allen and Connie gave us packed sandwiches to take with us. Paid enormous bill and took the 10h30 ferry back to Airlie Brach.
