Italy: Positano – 2021

Positano is a cliffside village on southern Italy's Amalfi Coast. It's a well-known holiday destination with a pebble beachfront and steep, narrow streets lined with boutiques and cafes. Its Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta features a majolica-tiled dome and a 13th-century Byzantine icon of the Virgin Mary. The Sentiero degli Dei hiking trail links Positano to other coastal towns.

🙂 Mesmerising, intoxicating, breathtaking!

After leaving Sorrento we thoroughly enjoyed our tours of Pompeii and Herculaneum…we were tired by the time we arrived in Positano but the views were so stunning that we soon felt better after our sundowners – despite the fact that the waiter told us that he was too busy to take a photo of us!! Honestly – and this is a 5 star establishment… ?! The Amalfi is all about the drive and it was as impressive driving as ever, winding our way on the hair pin beds – we did have to stop for a wee after our wine tasting – we think our driver was horrified when Ben wee’d over the edge of the lookout point…!

Our hotel was DIVINE! Hotel La Agavi is located in the cliffs overlooking the sea and is a 5-minute drive from the center of Positano. Hotel Le Agavi offers a private beach, reachable by lifts, an enchanting and unique view of the Amalfi Coast, an outdoor heated swimming pool, fitness center and spa. It has 2 restaurants, run by the starred chef: La Serra a Michelin star, with large terraces overlooking the sea, and the Remmese, on a private beach, open for lunch and dinner, with a water taxi service, offering tasting menus for special events evenings or à la carte, where you can relax and enjoy traditional and genuine local food. The property provides a free shuttle service to the center of Positano, running approximately every hour. The hotel is 1 hour by car from Naples and 13 km from the beautiful Sorrento, and 16 km from Amalfi. It is possible to rent our private boats for wonderful and unforgettable trips or tours along the Amalfi Coast, Capri and Amalfi. AMAZING. Paul and I were upgraded to the Suite! Woo! Hoo!

We settled in before getting ready to take the shuttle into the town.

We walked down to the beach and enjoyed a meal.

When we got back in the evening – not that late – 22h00ish there was no reply from the ’24hour’ concierge … this is why! 🙂

Breakfast on the terrace was delicious.

Our driver collected us at 09h00 for our day trip to Ravello via Positano and then Amalfi.

Such a scenic place.

I bumped into my ex colleague Julia!

Our last day in Positano was pure R&R taking advantage of the hotel facilities … we had massages, chilled on the private beach, swam and sauna’d and ate lunch …blissful.

Great Massage!

We took the lift down to the private beach where we would also be having lunch….another odd quirk for a so called 5 star establishment …. we had to drag sun loungers and find covers for them…. while the man just watched us… then came to take a drinks order … ho, hum.

For our last evening we were booked into the Michelin Star restaurant which was excellent! The chocolate bomb desert was a work of fine art!

The most entertaining moment of the holiday was Caitlyn and Elliott….we have had the same driver since the start of the trip …after dinner we told them that he would be waiting for us at 05h00 to drive us to the airport in is minibus…. so at 05h05 there is no sign of the two of them … we call them on the mobile and Caitlyn says that they were in a taxi on the way to the airport?!!! When they got to the top of the stairs the guys said, ‘Taxi?” – so they just got in and left with him…without their luggage … without us…?!! The chap kindly brought them back and did not charge us!! HONESTLY. It has provided continous entertainment as it is quite a tale to tell!! LOL!

What a fantastic Italian Road Trip! Magnificent. We headed to the airport in the minibus – poor Charlotte had to stop to get sick on the windy roads!

We will be back….
