🙁 Expensive.

We were collected at 09h00 from our hotel for our day trip to Ravello and Amalfi. The drive is incredible and the drivers terrifying! We were dropped off just outside Ravello and walked to the square. There are so many stray cats and it was good to see a man feeding them all…
Our first visit was to Villa Rufolo which is a site to behold. The panoramic vistas are spectacular and the gardens beautiful. The town has become known as “la città della musica“, city of music, and for the past several decades the Villa Rufolo has been the center of an annual summer concert series that features piano concerts, chamber music, and a grand orchestral performance on a stage built jutting out over the Mediterranean Sea and the rugged Amalfi Coast below. The photos can do the talking!
Villa Cimbrone is the crown laurel of Ravello and sits high atop a promontory that offers stunning views of the Mediterranean and the dramatic coastline below – stunning. The villa’s belvedere, Terrazza dell’Infinito (Terrace of Infinity), is lined by a series of marble busts that on clear days sparkle against the blue sky above and the azure waters of the Mediterranean below.
The Villa Cimbrone also served as a romantic rendezvous for Greta Garbo, the beautiful and reclusive movie actress, who quietly eloped to here in February of 1938 with intentions of marrying Leopold Stowkowski, the British-American conductor who wrote and produced the score for Walt Disney’s Fantasia. While their marriage was never consummated, their stay at the Villa Cimbrone quickly became an international sensation when word of their arrival was leaked to the newspapers.
We enjoyed the best meal of the trip at their magnificent restaurant, The Pan Flute.
A wonderful way to while away our time in this incredible location….
