Mozambique: Bazaruto Archipelago Resort 2014

The Bazaruto Archipelago is a group of 6 islands off the coast of southern Mozambique. They lie within Bazaruto National Park and are known for their white-sand beaches. Bazaruto, with sand dunes, is the largest island. Coral reefs around Magaruque and Santa Carolina islands protect rare marine animals, like dugongs. The wetlands, forests and grasslands of Benguerra Island's interior are home to many bird species.

🙂 Bazaruto Archipelago: Pristine coral reefs, white sands and riding on the beach. Remote, wild and wonderful. Dugongs. Bird Watching

🙁 Poverty.

This is one of Africa’s unspoilt gems … raw, remote, spectacular.

We stayed at Archipelago Resort in two large Casa which were extremely reasonably priced. All Casa have sea views, ceiling fans and are self catering. They are rustic Indonesian styled thatched casas, with cool verandas, open up to give breathtaking sea vistas as well as the tropical greenery of the well maintained Archipelago Resort Beach Front Estate. There is a bar and restaurant next door to the large swimming pool and a dive school on site who will also take you deep sea fishing – just blissful.

I had read the book One Hundred and Four Horses written by Mandy Retzlaff and we had arranged to do a stunning beach ride and swim – it was very special.

I will let the photos do the talking! The horses loved it!

The beach gallops were fantastic! How lucky are we?!!!

We also did an afternoon beach ride to a local village where we enjoyed a meal and gave the children pens and pencils and soap and enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by the local Momma.

The diving was also a highlight. Max and Amber qualified here with Andrew Zeelie and Dive Bazaruto. We had to cross the ‘washing machine’ in the duck every time we headed to the dive sites – hectic! We were lucky enough to see dugongs on our way back. The diving was pristine. We also spent a day on a remote island snorkelling on the reef and relaxing and had a BBQ / Braai lunch – DIVINE.
