Zimbabwe: Nyamatusi Mana Pools

Set in one of the wildest and most remote parts of Africa on the banks of the Zambezi, this is a luxury safari camp consisting of 6 luxury tented suites with uninterrupted views of the river and escarpment beyond ... Very special.

🙂 Luxury on the shores of the Zambezi

🙁 Everything to love!

Karl dropped us at the luxurious Nyamatusi Camp, another stunning ABC creation located on the shores of the Zambezi. We enjoyed the usual warm reception on arrival from our host.

After our welcome drink we were shown to our stunning room complete with plunge pool.

It was so relaxing to chill on the deck and take in the beauty of the surrounding Zambezi floodplain. Elephants were grazing nearby and it was cery peaceful.

After a delicious lunch we set off on our game drive – just us in the vehicle with our lovely Guide called Trymore. We joked saying that leopard was top of our list … we drove to a tree where we knew a kill had been hoisted but Trymore was not hopeful that we would see her as he said that the leopards in the area are so elusive – at that point Paul spotted her under a bush! We were elated! Stunning creature! She walked across our path and stared at us before making her way up the tree to her kill!

We left her to the remnants of her impala and headed off for our sundowner.

Back at camp we enjoyed a traditional Zimbabwean dinner including Mopani worms (!) dinner with lively dancing – great fun!

When we got back to our room all our laundry had been done and Paul’s shorts were repaired!

We enjoyed a great night’s sleep and were up at 05h30 ready for a new day.

We enjoyed a light breakfast and were ready to set off – our game drive would basically be to the airstrip about 1hr30mins away.

There had been an annoying lady in camp (her husband was very pleasant). She is Treasurer of a small reserve in the Greater Kruger having recently moved back to SA from Scotland and was a real Know it All – rather amusing, Paul and I had to bite back giggles! … Examples: she always fed the vervet monkeys at her lodge and saw nothing wrong with that, she always wore white on bush walks as that is just another nonsense made up myth, she sees elephants standing on their hind legs every day on their river bed, so these elephants at Mana Pools are nothing special and she would not go out of her way to find Boris … etc etc 🙂 LOL! That chilly morning I mentioned to the young American who they had been paired with that it gets quite cold on the open game vehicles as she only had a light (white!!) jacket on, and of course this woman replied that she does games drives every day of her life and never gets cold (despite having just bought a beanie from the shop – only a souvenir!) …. The American agreed with her and said that they lived in Colorado where it was no unusual to be -30C – roll our eyes – we left them to it and said our farewells. .. It was highly entertaining to spot them on the open game vehicle a little later using the rain ponchos for warmth as they quivered with cold. LOL. We had beanie, scarf, gloves and several layers and were as warm as toast!

Although we saw lion tracks and could hear them roaring, we could not find them… we did however spot a contemplative baboon, thousands of quelas and a huge eland bull. contemplative baboon.

It was an uneventful trip to the airstrip where we were met by our pilot who offered to fly over Vic Falls on our way to Livingstone if we were interested 🙂 How lovely. We said farewell to Taffy who had driven us (an absolutely delightful chap!) and headed off on our next adventure to Zambia at Thorntree Lodge.
