USA: Washington DC 1995

Washington, DC, the U.S. capital, is a compact city on the Potomac River, bordering the states of Maryland and Virginia. It’s defined by imposing neoclassical monuments and buildings – including the iconic ones that house the federal government’s 3 branches: the Capitol, White House and Supreme Court.

🙂 Visiting Anne. Loads of channels on TV! Great to be in one place for 10 days with a dear friend.

🙁 Everything was great!

Anne very kindly picked us up from the Amtrak Station and dropped us at the house she shared with Dwight. Lovely area called Fals Church. She headed off to work and we caught up on all the letters which had been sent to her address. We then could not decide what to watch on TV as there were so many channels on US TV!! Dwight had a ribbon snake which kept Trent entertained! Slept for a few house and then went to see Braveheart in the evening with mel Gibson – outstanding film!

We spent. 10 days with Anne mainly chilling, tanning and schooling Trent and meeting her friends in evenings. It felt like a great break from the constant travelling to be in one place for a few days. Headed in to town to get Japanese Visa and Mexican visas. We caught the bust to the White House and walked around it to the Washington Monument and the war memorial and Capitol – just like the movies! 🙂

We headed into Georgetown to meet Anne – it is a really trendy area with a young vibrant crowd. We enjoyed a few drinks but Anne was driving. On the way home se stopped for us to take photos and we were pulled over by the Cops! Paul and I broke into ‘Bad Boys’ theme song – fortunately they had a senee of humour as we were Brits! LOL.

On another day we headed to the river and paddled on a dragon boat with Ann and about 20 other people – it was TOUGH!!! That evening we had a lovely picnic with Anne’s friends Mark & Cara and their baby Pearce. There were fireflies – just a lovely evening.

On another day we played volleyball with Anne’s friends – Paul was told off for saying ‘shit’ in the hall! LOL He was really annoyed as Americans take the game so seriously! LOL.

We took a trip to Central DC to the Smithsonians Air & Space museum which was excellent.

On our final day Anne gave us a lovely card which included all the money we had given her for our stay there and for phone calls etc – so lovely. Our bus departed for New York City at 12noon – we had LOVED our stay in DC!
