SA: Kruger National Park – Ntandanyathi Hide

The Nthandanyathi Bird and Game Hide is situated close to Lower Sabie Rest Camp on the S28 Nhlowa Road. It is a very quiet viewing point and can produce some amazing sights. The name "Nthandanyathi" translated and explained basically means where the Buffalo like to drink. There are a lot of water and woodland birds at the hide that can be photographed at close range.

🙂 Peaceful

🙁 The local rhino crash were poached 🙁

There are a lot of Sharptooth Catfish and Terrapin that can be viewed directly in the water. The Nthandanyathi Hide is wheelchair friendly and is easy to access for the disabled. On my one visit to the Nthandanyathi hide I witnessed a Blue Waxbill feeding it’s fledglings in a nest, you can also view quite large crocodiles and hippos at the hide. We were very saddened to hear that the crash of rhino who were regulars in the area were poached.

2010:

As we entered the hide and elephant was approaching to drink. An iguana was catching catfish…never a dull moment!

2011:

On arrival, Paul thought someone had played a joke and left a toy snake on the gate and reached out to get it – I smacked his hand and the snake slithered off…luckily it was a harmless bush snake! We also had a big croc and a hammerkop.
