SA: Kruger National Park – Mlondozi Picnic Spot

Located off S29 overlooking Mlondozi Dam, approximately 15 km from Lower Sabie has to be the number one picnic spot as it is situated on top of a hill with a view of the dam and plains below. We have had amazing sightings from here. Picture this – we get to the picnic cook our bacon and eggs and just as we are about to eat a heard of about 2000 buffalo appears on the plains walking in single file towards the dam.... or we see a lioness hunting giraffe...or we spot thousands of zebra ... or we watch baboons, wildebeest and zebra fighting over a dribble of water...or we watch elephants holding each other's tails in single file... etc etc - it is a magical place.... Garden of Eden of the Park

We have one stop a year here to enjoy a cooked brunch on the skottel. This is where I would like to have my ashes scattered when I depart this plane.

This yea we were with the Coes – the dam was FULL! As always it was a hive of activity! Plenty of waterbuck, hippos and a hed of buffalo came down to drink….stunning.

April 2016:

We were horrified to see the impact of the drought – now water at all and hippo carcasses everywhere 🙁

May: A sad but fond farewell to Richard – lovely Val’s husband who is a fellow RMC VHR – this was a very special place for them when they lived here. An elephant stood nearby solemnly watching us pay our respects.

October: Dry but busy!
