Beautiful Charlotte Kathleen born at 05h24 weighing 6lb03 ... Kathleen was my Granny's name (Kathleen Lucy)

🙂 1.5 hour labour, beautiful home birth surrounded by pets. NCT Coffee Morning – Charlotte’s first party at 5hrs!

🙁 INTENSE!

I had opted for a Home Birth and had been seeing Doctor Hobbs in Woodley who was a huge advocate. I woke up at about 04h30 with twinges and by 05h00 the contractions were coming hard and fast…Paul was reading the birth book over my shoulder as I sunk my teeth into his arm, every time a contraction peaked … he thought it was time to call the Doctor! Within minutes the midwife had arrived and told me the baby’s head was crowning…. fortunately Dr Hobbs also arrived minutes later and asked for hot water … I laughed and said I thought that only happened in the movies and why did he need hot water?! he replied that it was snowing outside and his hands were frozen and he wanted to warm them up before delivering the baby! He asked me how it had been and I said I was coping thanks to the gas and air but that the contractions were right on top of each other … he pointed out that my gas and air was connected! At that point the agony was unbearable and I managed to connect the mask to the cylinder and it felt great! Charlotte was delivered at 05h24 weighing in at 6lb03 and with a healthy paid of lungs… I naturally allowed the placenta to follow and put her to the breast…Paul cut the umbilical cord after it had finished pulsating about 15mins later. Simba and Mufasa came in to meet the new addition to the family and we woke Trent to say hello to his new sister too. I phoned Oupa and Loren to share the good news. Fortunately I managed to slip back into my old jeans and we then took Trent. to school for 08h00 and at that point remembered that I had invited my NCT group for a coffee morning! 🙂 We bought some cakes at the Hurst Bakery.

The night before:

NCT Party at 5hours! 🙂

That evening Paula came to visit and we also had our first meconium poo!

1st Bath two days later
