UK: Scotland – Cairngorms 1993

The Cairngorms are a mountain range in the eastern Highlands of Scotland closely associated with the mountain Cairn Gorm. The Cairngorms became part of Scotland's second national park on 1 September 2003. This was a very special trip as it was Paul and my first holiday together.

🙂 First holiday with Paul 🙂 Stunning!

🙁 Everything was perfect!

Paul and I took a coach from London to Scotland! We stayed at the Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore which was just lovely with an open fire place.

We hired bikes on our first day and cycled around a loch and enjoyed a picnic lunch.

The next day we had skiing lessons – most amusing as a skier stopped and complimented us on our matching Berghouse jackets lol! We will always remember ‘Use your eeedgiiiess!’ When we had our lunch break we ran to the summit of Cairngorm: 1,309m – just so that we could tick it off in our Munro Log! 🙂

We had such fun.

The next day we took another coach to the wooden log cabin that Julian had booked – we were dropped off about a mile away and had to carry our heavy backpacks on the road! It was great to meet up with Ju, Martin & Carol.

We enjoyed the rest of the week in great company with lots of laughs! We summited 3 Munros: Ben Challum: 1,025m on 19/02/94; Ben Vorlich: 985m on 20/02/94 and Meall Greigh: 1,001m on 21/02/94. Winter walking is just amazing … you do not get too hot…soup tastes amazing and when you get back in front of the fire with a hot chocolate and then a glass of red wine … you feel AMAZING. I will let the photos do the talking! No particular order …

An amazing introduction to the Munros and the magic that is winter walking! DIVINE.
