Tucked between Greece, Turkey, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Romania, Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe, with an ancient culture and traditions. Roses, yogurts, and hot springs are some of the things Bulgaria is renowned for.

THREE things we did not know about Bulgaria:

  1. Bulgaria is one of the oldest European countries established in 681AD and the only one not to have changed its name. Plovdiv is Europe’s oldest inhabited city.
  2. The ancient Bulgarian calendar was declared the most accurate by World UNESCO in 1976
  3. Bulgaria produced as much as 85% of the world’s rose oil. The roses are grown in Bulgaria’s Rose Valley (Kazanlak) are an essential ingredient in perfumes production.
