🙂 Great to catch up with old friends at CHEERS!

🙁 Flying visit – need to come back asap and spend more time to see the City!

Boston is best known for its famous baked beans, Fenway Park, The Boston Marathon, and of course for the bar from Cheers!

We only had time for a drink at Cheers with our friends. Paul was at uni with Dean and he now lectures at Harvard and Paula is an obstetrician and partner in her practice. We had such fun but it was way too short as our flight had been cancelled and we had to fly at a much later time.

Boston Tea Party, (December 16, 1773), incident in which 342 chests of tea belonging to the British East India Company were thrown from ships into Boston Harbor by American patriots disguised as Mohawk Indians. The Americans were protesting both a tax on tea (taxation without representation) and the perceived monopoly of the East India Company

When we return we plan to do the following:

  1. Beacon Hill, one of Boston’s oldest neighbourhoods, is home to some of the finest examples of Federal-style brick row houses in the country, and Charles Street is the perfect launching point from which to explore it all. You can find the Cheers Bar here too!
  2. The Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile walk through the city that leads past 16 colonial and revolutionary historical sites, and it’s one of the city’s most popular visitor attractions. Stops include the Boston Common (the city’s main green space), the golden-domed Massachusetts State House, Faneuil Hall, Paul Revere House, the warship USS Constitution and Bunker Hill Monument.
  3. Acron Street is a stunning little place to visit and within easy reach of Boston Common. We are told it is one of the prettiest little-cobbled streets on the east coast reminiscent of the streets you see in Cambridge (England) or the villages of the Cotswolds (England).
  4. Book a trip to Martha’s Vineyard, a Massachusetts island, sits in the Atlantic just south of Cape Cod. A longtime New England summer colony, it encompasses harbor towns and lighthouses, sandy beaches and farmland.
  5. Whether you’re a baseball fan or not, you’ve got to visit the home of the Boston Red Sox, at Fenway Park.
  6. The Lookout Rooftop provides big-city appeal with a cool crowd, awesome skyline views, and strong drinks.
  7. Brattle Bookshop, a store that encompasses three floors of used books, the top one filled with rare collectibles.
  8. The Barking Crab: Menus of seafood platters; raw bar favourites; fried scallops, shrimp, and clams; fish sandwiches; entrees; and lobster in all forms, including boiled, grilled, roasted, and rolled.

Can’t wait to be back!
