Zimbabwe: Victoria Falls, 2010

Our return to Victoria Falls was because we really wanted to share this wonderful place with the girls and it did not disappoint. Victoria Falls Hotel is as colonial and wonderful as ever - love falling asleep to the sound of bullfrogs. Te on the verandah with the smoke that thunders in the background is always a highlight.

🙂 Flight of the Angels. Vic Falls Hotel high tea. The smoke that thunders

🙁 Poverty…we bought trillions and billions and millions of Zimbabwe Dollars for US$5 (and which got stolen in South Africa!)

We have had the privilege of visiting three: 1994, 1998 and 2010.

It was really exciting arriving back at Vic Falls Hotel – some things just never change and that is why we love it here. Love the resident warthogs who keep the lawn neat and tidy!

As it had been an exhausting week we decided to take it easy and lie by the pool listening to chilled African tunes and enjoyed a nice braai.

After lunch we strolled around the Falls – it has been modernised with posters and official entrance and walkways. Spectacular as ever!

When we got back we enjoyed High Tea on the verandah – you can see the smoke that thunders in the background as a storm blew in.

That evening after a cocktail at the bar we attended the Africa Spectacular Show with traditional dancing. The food was delicious and plentiful.

The next morning it was time for our helicopter flip over the falls. We had paid for 10mins but the pilot enjoyed our company so much that he gave us 20mins – he was not popular when we got back! We used Shearwater – highly recommended. We saw elephants and giraffe, oh – and the Falls were great too! When we got really close to the Falls the helicopter felt a bit unstable which was rather unnerving! We bought some souvenirs and a few trillion dollars for US$5.
