Croatia: ‘Wilma of Sweden’ Yacht Charter – Day 1&2

Skippered charter with chef - ideal for discovering Croatia's turquoise coves, rugged cliffs and national parks. DAY 1 &2: Dubrovnik to Lopud to Polace.

🙂 FUN, FUN, FUN!

Ivo kindly dropped us off at ACI Marina, Debrovnik. We were met by Toni, our Skipper and Una, our Hostess. A very quick safety briefing and we were off so that we could enjoy a sunset sail with champagne before mooring up at our first port of call, Lopud. Dinner was just amazing – freshly caught fish followed by desert. Yum.

🙁 AVOID booking through Blue Sun Yachts at all costs. We would not want anyone else to experience their poor service. I had signed the agreement and made my deposit payment only to receive another agreement 20mins later with a completely different yacht, different crew, a much lower spec (no air con) and which did not include all the ‘toys’ and the disembarkation location was an 80EUR taxi drive from Split where we were supposed to disembark. No notification or explanation, just a different e-mail with a different contract attachment in my Inbox. When I challenged them they said that their colleague had made the booking and that they had had to alter it, no apology. By this stage there were no yachts available for our embarkation and disembarkation dates and locations so we were forced to accept what was offered. Our Skipper was horrified to learn which yacht we had actually booked and paid for in the first place and told us that we had received the lowest spec possible and had overpaid massively for what we had received. I had really fought to get the two paddle boards included as they were trying to charge me an additional EUR200 despite being included in original booking. We never did get the under sea scooter (which we are told is usually hired for an extra EUR1000!!! and which we had paid for).

🙂 The positives completely outweighed the negatives as we decided to put the situation out of our minds and enjoy the holiday safe in the knowledge what goes around comes around. Toni and Una were AMAZING. Great company and very professional. I will let the photos do the talking as they capture the essence of the amazing trip we had.

DAY 1: LOPUD to Splice Bay (Colipa / Peljesac) to Polace (Mljet).

We started the day at 8am with a splendid breakfast. Toni asked whether we were interested in fresh oysters for lunch – resounding YES! This was Elliott’s first experience of oysters – not so certain that he enjoyed it as much as we did – an acquired taste! He anchored in Splice Bay and what one could only be described as the quintessential optima of what one would expect in Croatia – blue skies, turquoise seas – simply stunning. Toni headed off in the tender to source our oysters while we relaxed… true bliss.

We then caught the wind and enjoyed a bit of sailing and headed to Polace where we were mooring up for the night. We were very keen to sample traditional Croatian Cuisine and Toni had therefore booked ahead at the traditional Konoba Antika and ordered Octopus / Seafood PEKA and Meat and Lamb and Goat PEKA which needs to be ordered at least 3 hours before as it is cooked on the open fire. PEKA are a traditional Dalmatian technique for preparing meat or fish on an open fireplace, under a bell shaped, cast-iron lid covered in glowing embers. AMAZING and delicious! The staff were so friendly. Free mooring with dinner. Stunning setting at the head of the inlet with a raised terrace looking down at the sea and forested hills. Great wine and a lovely waitress called Charlotte (Same as our daughter!) made our evening an excellent one to remember!
