The Lake District is a region and national park in Cumbria in northwest England. A popular vacation destination, it’s known for its glacial ribbon lakes, rugged fell mountains and historic literary associations. Market towns such as Kendal, Ambleside and Keswick on scenic Derwentwater are bases for exploring the area and home to traditional inns, galleries of local art and outdoor equipment shops.
Gower or the Gower Peninsula in southwest Wales, projects towards the Bristol Channel. It is the most westerly part of the historic county of Glamorgan. In 1956, the majority of Gower became the first area in the United Kingdom to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Durdle Door is a natural limestone arch on the Jurassic Coast near Lulworth in Dorset, England. It is privately owned by the Weld Family who own the Lulworth Estate, but it is also open to the public. Thomas Hardy (one of my favourite authors) had lived in Dorset for much of his life, was familiar with the Dorset coast, and had used Lulworth Cove (under the light disguise of 'Lulwind Cove') as the location of Sergeant Troy's disastrous swim in chapter XLVII of Far from the Madding Crowd
North Devon is a coastal area of southwest England, known for its dramatic cliffs, wild seas and sandy beaches at Woolacombe, Saunton Sands and Croyde Bay. Natural features range from biodiverse sand dunes at Braunton Burrows to rocky coves along the South West Coast Path, which spans the coastline. The Tarka Trail footpath and cycleway passes the riverfront, medieval town of Barnstaple.
This was a special trip to our little piece of paradise on our dear friends Buddymoon. We were looking forward to the tranquility of drifting across the water while game viewing and camping wild....
Kilimanjaro's huge snow capped summit dome rises high above the surrounding savannah. At 5,896m it is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest single free standing mountain in the world. It has three volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. The highest point on Kibo is Uhuru Peak - summiting Kili is an essential part of a visit to Tanzania!
Found in the famous Okavango Delta, Gunn's Camp is surrounded by waterways rich in game and has a wonderful old world safari ambience, perhaps derived from its long history as one of the Delta's oldest camps. The property is located on the banks of the Boro River and is excellently positioned for a number of activities and incredible game viewing, with Moremi Game Reserve and Chiefs Island bordering the camp.
What struck us most was the smiling happy people. Lake Malawi is the 2nd largest lake in Africa and is a meromictic lake - its three distinct water layers do not mix providing more environments for plants and animals to evolve in. Cichlids are especially abundant in Lake Malawi, where they’ve diverged into at least 1,000 species.
The Rwenzoris, often called the Mountains of the Moon, lie on the Uganda DRC border and mark the frontier between the high savannah plains of East Africa and the low dense forests of the west. It is a true mountain range covering six massifs. The highest point in the range is Margherita Peak on Mount Stanley at 5,109m is the 3rd highest point in Africa after Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya.
