Another adventurous day exploring the Arctic Lapland followed by Michelin star fine dining!
A wonderful day starting with a visit to the oldest church in Lapland and feeding reindeer. Then the excitement commenced - driving our own dog sleds - truly magical experience - just you, the wilderness and your dogs...all the way to remote wooden log cabins surrounded by a frozen lake for a delicious meal. Sauna and snow rolling under the simply spectacular Northern Lights in -30C...AMAZING.
Bucket List dream come true! Ever since I read about the Arctic Ice Hotel being hand sculpted out of massive blocks of ice taken from the adjacent Torne Tiver in 1989 it has been a dream to visit Jukkasjäarvi to experience this famous Swedish landmark. It did not disappoint! We were also treated to the magnificent Northern Lights in their full glory whilst overnighting in a log cabin in -30C during our self drive dog sledding adventure. Other activities on offer that we took advantage of was the skidoo adventure and a wildlife photography trip where we spotted moose and reindeer - Amazing! MUST DO!
Madeirais an outstanding scuba diving destination and haven for an endless variety of marine flora and fauna as well as being one of the best spots for whale and dolphin watching. With the nearby Azores it makes the largest whale sanctuary in the world!
The hike from Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo is the most famous hike on the island of Madeira in Portugal. This 11Km return tunnel-route leads hikers along narrow pathways, up and down ominous staircases, and through dark tunnel chambers. It is an adrenaline-filled test of endurance with steep inclines, causing some serious quad and calf burning on the trek. If you are up for the challenge, I promise you it will be the highlight of your trip to Madeira.
Madeira Island is considered one of the best places in the world to practice Canyoning. It is an exhilarating sport that takes place in a mountainous watercourse overcoming the obstacles of nature by swimming, jumping and abseiling in beautiful waterfalls.
A wet day of exciting cycling with a few bumps and bruises on the way rounded off with a lovely stay at Port Moniz with fabulous sea views.
Day 4: Swimming with Dolphins and Spa day ...
Day 3: Cabo Girão: As if 580 metres wasn’t high enough to give you vertigo, in 2012 a glass skywalk, the highest in Europe, was fitted to the top of the cliff, taking the braver souls several metres out from the cliff edge. If that leaves you feeling hungry, try Faja dos Padres, an organic restaurant accessible by cable which is a short drive away ...
Day 1: Funchal is the capital city of Portugal's Madeira archipelago. It's backed by hills, and known for its harbour, gardens and Madeira wine cellars. We thoroughly enjoyed our explorations....
