Austria: St Anton

Guaranteed snow and excellent piste conditions are the ever reliable hallmarks of Austria's largest inter-connected ski area. Ski Arlberg , which comprises the villages of St. Anton am Arlberg, St. Christoph, Stuben, Lech, Zürs, Warth and Schröcken, consists of more than 300 km of marked slopes and 200 km of off-piste trails. The 87 state-of-the-art cable cars and lifts offer the highest standards of safety, comfort, and efficiency. The region is also a founding member of ‘Best of the Alps’, the quality association of the 13 most renowned alpine destinations.

🙂 Après ski is a major attraction here and in the form of Mooserwirt and the Krazy Kangaruh – Fantastic!

🙁 Expensive!

St Anton is one of the best ski resorts in the world for advanced and expert skiers, with numerous black runs dotted around, the steepest of which is the Fang piste below Gampen. Innsbruck Airport is the most popular for St Anton and the one that most package holidaymakers and independent skiers will use. St Anton is a big resort town, spreading out along the valley. There are accommodation options for most budgets.

With so many pistes – not to mention the additional 200km of marked ski routes in the region – to explore, you’ll never be short of options. Perhaps only absolute beginners will struggle here, although Nasserein has some decent learner facilities. Intermediates can explore the entire Ski Arlberg via the Flexenbahn, opening up a network of wide and snowsure blue and red pistes. Then for experts the options are so numerous – you’d do very well to cover every route in a season, let alone a week.

  • Total Pistes: 306km
  • Blue: 43%
  • Red: 40%
  • Black: 17%
  • Additional Ski Routes: 200km
  • Lifts: 88
  • Altitude: 1300m – 2811m

We decided to take a catered chalet with James & Sascha…Fun! Fun! Fun! We hit the Après hard and ski’d all the way over to Lech … the catered chalet was fun with a good group of people and very reasonably priced.
