SA: Kruger National Park – Shimuwini Camp

My very Favourite camp (along with Tamboti). At Shimuwini Camp you can be certain you will see many different animals coming down to drink along the river, within view of Shimuwini Camp. Shimuwini Camp is in the northern region, the area ranging southward from the Tropic of Capricorn to the Olifants River. The sparse, isolated hills in the west are rich in pre-historic artefacts, while the Lebombo Mountains in the east form the natural boundary between Kruger Park, South Africa and Mozambique.

🙂 Located n the river – glorious sunrises and a swimming pool – paradise.

Camp Layout:

There are 15 family cottages spread out in a long, well-spaced line along the Shimuwini Dam at this Kruger Park camp. Some of the items available in these cottages are cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery, a refrigerator, sink and a gas stove.

Each cottage has its own barbecue facilities for guests wanting to cook outdoors at this Kruger Park camp. The refrigerators do not have freezer compartments, but a communal freezer is available at the reception office at Shimuwini Camp.

The accommodation units have solar panels for lights and fans only, and there are no plugs in the units. These lodging cottages are serviced and fresh bedding, towels and soap are provided. There is ample open parking available at this Kruger Park camp.

The nearest shops to Shimuwini Camp are in the Letaba and Mopani restcamps. Shimuwini Camp has a Bird Hide that offers guests the opportunity to get a closer look at the birdlife on the Shimuwini Dam. April through to August is a good time for game viewing from the hide, which looks over to the far bank.

We did an excellent sunset drive and had a fantastic civet sighting as well as the very rarely seen Grysbok! The elephant damage to the ancient baobab was sad to see!
