Kenya 2022: Sheldrick Trust – Group Visit

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust operates an orphan elephant rescue and wildlife rehabilitation program in Kenya. It was founded in 1977 by Dame Daphne Sheldrick to honor her late husband, David Sheldrick. Since 2001, it has been run by their daughter, Angela Sheldrick.

🙂 Great conservation. ADORABLE elephants.

🙁 Busy!

We had a day to kill in Nairobi as our flights had been brought a day forward due to BA cancelling their scheduled Saturday flight. We were very keen to share the great work done at the Sheldrick Trust. with our friends so had added this as our 11am stop after visiting Giraffe Centre. Click on the link: Sheldrick Trust and you can also adopt an adorable elephant! Our driver was Tony Kago: +254 723 497894 – highly recommended safe driver.

Advice on booking. You can e-mail: office@sheldrickwildlifetrust.org three months in advance to book the 11am slot.

Tony and I had both assumed that we had booked the 11am visit – and you know what they say about assumptions! There were two ladies at the gate – one who turned us away angrily and another who gently asked us to wait unto all those with reservations had entered to wee whether there would be space for us – after 10mis, fortunately there was space! We gratefully paid $30 each. We moved to the very edge of the crowd on the left which gave us the opportunity to touch and talk to the elephants as they moved around – a VERY different experience to our private visit in 2020 – lots of people enjoy the company of these little orphans so expect it to be busy. It was another delightful experience and so exciting to see how our little orphans had grown since 2020!!

Here are our orphans:
