🙂 Meerkats, Scenery, wildlife, ostriches.
We flew into George and collected our car hire. It was fascinating watching the mist roll down the mountains – a stunning drive of 60Km which took about an hour. We stayed at an idyllic rest farm called DeZeekoe in the KLein Karoo just 7Kms outside of Oudtshoorn which was in close proximity to all the activities available and has lovely views. The food was excellent – we enjoyed ostrich of course!
The reason we had chosen to come to Oudtshoorn was for the meerkats – and we were rewarded! This was arranged on arrival at the accommodation via Five Shy Meerkats. We had to be in place before sunrise – as soon as the sun’s rays started to warm up the earth the meerkats popped out and appeared to enjoy watching us as much we were enjoying watching them!
We visited the Cango Wildlife Ranch where we had interactions with cheetah, Caracal and Servil. A very interesting visit.
We made the obligatory visit to the Cango Ostrich Farm and stood on eggs and rode ostriches!
It was fascinating to see the males in full breeding pink! The guys had their obligatory race!
On our way to the cape we passed this interesting place … the owner had bought it but received no interest so his friend played a joke on him and painted ‘Ronnie’s Sex Shop’ on the wall – he was immediately inundated with customers and so it continues! For some reason people like to leave their bras there?! The owner knows my step sister Nancy well – small world! You cannot leave without plastering your own bit of graffiti on the wall!
