Morzine is a year round fantastic destination. We are so fortunate to have close friends who built the most stunning chalet here which has enabled us to ski on an annual basis at a fraction of the cost and as their regular guests as part of our “Welli Ski Group”. We have made so many magnificent memories in this part of the world. We have enjoyed many memorable Christmases here with our family and close family friends as well as the summer side of things with stunning walks, canyoning and the annual Harley Davidson Festival.
It is an attractive, if sprawling, market village in the Aulps Valley, just 30km south of Geneva. It is the largest resort base in the Portes du Soleil ski domain. The link to Avoriaz is provided by the Super Morzine gondola based near the centre of Morzine, followed by a further two piste-linked ski lifts; a reconstructed cable-car station at nearby Prodains also provides a more direct link. Le Pleney has onwards links to Morzine’s most challenging slopes on the dramatic-looking peaks of the Pointe de Nyon and Chamossiere, and is linked with the neighbouring resort of Les Gets, together offering a very respectable range of runs suitable for all ability levels; perfect for mixed-ability groups and families. The only downside to skiing in Morzine is that its altitude does mean some of its slopes suffer when the freeze point is much further up the mountain. But that’s what Avoriaz is there for.

Après ski is particularly lively around the base area of the Pleney slopes just after the lifts close, Le Tremplin is the key venue here. Then there is the unmissable Dixie Bar with excellent live Irish music from Dixie Mix. Our fav restaurants in town include: Le Clin d’Oeil and Restaurant La Chamade which does a very reasonably priced Chef’s Table with excellent food.
On the slopes at Christmas visiting the eccentric Chez Ba Beth is a place not to miss!
2024:
This was a bittersweet trip. We had all been due to go for Nessie’s 60th birthday celebrations in July 2023 but Dermot tragically fell off the mountain that weekend of his 61st birthday and of course the trip was cancelled. This was a tough trip for Sue and for Tony & Ness … lots of emotion and a big absence in terms of a great personality.

2015: Summer in Morzine
Morzine is not just winter fun and skiing – the mountains have so much to offer! Hiking, Cycling, Canyoning and Festivals, Harley Davidsons and Tour de France!!
We had a fantastic trip in sunny weather… We walked, canyoned and partied with lots of great food and wine… our first taste of Aperol … the future was definitely ORANGE! Interesting to see the mountains without snow!
