UK: Bristol Balloon Fiesta

The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is an annual four day free festival of hot air ballooning in Bristol, England. Teams from the UK and other parts of the world bring their hot air balloons to the site and participate in mass ascents where as many as 100 balloons may launch at a time.

🙂 Great day out with a vibrant atmosphere.

🙁 VERY busy – we walked in as parking was limited.

The Bristol Balloon Fiesta is a fab annual event! We started the day off with a walk with our family friends to the top of the hill behind their home to watch the Red Devils fly by. The four-day festival was first held in 1979 and is now one of the largest in Europe, attracting crowds of 100,000 every day. Fiesta is free and unticketed, which is a key part of the ethos of the event. It’s accessible to all! If the weather is good, the morning launches usually begin around 6:00am and the evening launches around 6:00pm. The event also features special shapes making an appearance in the area, with balloons tethered throughout the weekend by ballooning teams from all over the world. Attendees are allowed to bring food and drink to the event, but are prohibited from taking food, drink, glass bottles and glasses into the Members Enclosure.
