UK: Northern Ireland – Co. Donegal

County Donegal is a largely Irish-speaking region bordering the Atlantic Ocean in northwestern Ireland. It’s made up of castles, rugged coastline and mountains such as the quartzite Mount Errigal. Glenveagh National Park, once a private estate, encompasses forests, lakes and bogland in the Derryveagh Mountains. Its 1870s manor house, the Scottish Baronial-style Glenveagh Castle, is known for its Victorian gardens.

🙂 Sweeping beaches.

From endless beaches and towering cliffs to sprawling walking trails and charming villages, Donegal is incredible.

We continued on our Roadtrip to Co. Donegal and stopped off to eat at Smugglers Creek Inn which is s situated on a cliff edge with breathtaking panoramic views over Rossnowlagh beach and Donegal Bay. The interior is decorated with seafaring theme, natural stone walls, original timber floors and beams. It’s a very popular destination for locals & tourists alike.

Rossnowlagh is one of only two beaches in Donegal that cars are allowed to drive on to so we did as the locals do…and drove on to it! It was rather chilly and we found it amusing to see all these people sitting in their cars on the beach – not something you would see on Durban Beachfront…lol! We enjoyed an icecrream and headed on our way.

We had booked into Dulrush Fishing Lodge which is Nestled in the heart of the Fermanagh Lakelands. After trying to fish to no avail we enjoyed a sundowner in the hot tub. The owners are very pleasant and are hard at work to turn this into a great staycation.

The Farmhouse did not serve dinner. It was quite amusing as we had to walk across a bridge into Ireland, which is in the EU and where pubs stay open later to get dinner! 🙂 We enjoyed a Guinness.
