Denmark

Denmark is known for being Hans Christian Andersen's birthplace, for the Little Mermaid statue, and for being the Happiest Nation worldwide. They have a concept called Hygge which encourages us to make the ordinary special and to indulge in all the good things around us. It might be a simple pleasure such as eating something that you love or spending time with your family and friends, even something as simple as lighting candles or buying flowers... Great?!

🙂 Tivoli Gardens amusement park in Copenhagen. Danish pastries. Cleanliness. Proximity to Malmo and the Bridge.

🙁 Nothing negative to report!

THREE things we did not know about Denmark:

  1. Danes are great inventors and it is not only LEGO that they can take credit for inventing. Danes contributed to medical research that led to the discovery of insulin and are real leaders in innovation in the field of wind power! An initial map of Google Maps was built by two Danish brothers and Danes contributed to the invention of the loudspeaker and Bluetooth? We can also thank Danes for quality beer, as they revolutionised the brewing industry by inventing the “purifying” yeast inventing Carlsberg as well as Tuborg beer.
  2. One of the favourite Danish treats is a salty candy called liquorice (“lakrids”) – it is extremely salty!
  3. The enchanting stories of The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, The Little Match Girl, The Princess and the Pea, and The Snow Queen were all written by a Danish author, Hans Christian Andersen.
