Kenya 2022: CULTIVA and homeward bound

Fine dining with a rustic feel. Cultiva is a pop up on an organic farm in Langata. The food is fine dining, the venue farmyard chic. The restaurant space is nestled between two shipping containers that act as kitchens. The main kitchen a huge open workspace where you can watch the chefs make dreams come true. On the other side of the room is a vast open bar, made of chunky wood and backed by exposed brick walls. The furniture made of converted barrels sits around high tables, decorated with baobab pods and candles. Produce is grown freshly in the veg patches surrounding the outside dining tables.

🙂 Incredible ambiance. Organic. Inspired. Delicious.

🙁 Slightly pricey

Cultiva is the baby and brainchild of the inspiring Ariel Moscardi’s Ecuadorian talent. Trained at Le Cordon Bleu his passion for creating beautiful food from local, organic and in season food was taken a step further when he teamed up with Peter Silvester, owner of Royal African Safari’s and the Cultiva farm. Head Chef Khaled Allibhai joined Cultiva in 2020 (when we last visited) at age 28. He takes his passion for cooking to his grandmother. “Cooking was her way of expressing her love. She taught me that if you are not doing what you love, it is better not to do it at all,” he said.

We were touched that Head Chef Khaled Allibhai remembered our visit to his Chef’s Table in 2020. He took the time to show us around the newly refurbished areas. The food was divine and sublime. We enjoyed Pisco Sours as Cocktails. For starters we can highly recommend the Dumplings and Camembert cheese – to die for – bursting full of flavour! We also enjoyed the warm and hearty ox ravioli, Seafood Chupe, Hunters rice and Purple haze gnocchi. We WILL be back!
