Austria: Skiing in Saalbach

Saalbach-Hinterglemm is an Austrian Alpine resort town, southwest of the city of Salzburg. It’s known for its ski areas. A network of lifts provides access to the ski circuits of the Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Mountain bike trails criss-cross nearby Reiterkogel, Kohlmais and Schattberg mountains.

🙂 Snow. Skiing. New Tear. Meeting new friends. Apres Ski.

We stayed at the Hotel Sonnleiten but this has now been converted into housing. It was a lovely hotel with open fires, a swimming pool and good food and excellent massage. A stunning place to have celebrated New Year.

Hinterhag Alm – this is the TOP après-ski venue in Saalbach, located right by the slopes. It offers a great atmosphere and lots of fun through until evening. Over two floors, crowds of people sway in time to daily live music. The Herzerltanz (heart dance) has become a tradition. On 26 January 1976, Evi threw her little hearts for the first time and the tradition continues every evening in the Hinterhag Alm at 5 pm. The BEST!!

It was New Year and we decided to dress up – we spotted one other couple also in black tie – they were Swedish and it was the start of a long and lovely friendship!

What a. wonderful welcome to 2010!!!
