UK: Camping – Isle of Wight 2013

The Isle of Wight is an island off the south coast of England. It’s known for its beaches and seafront promenades such as sandy Shanklin Beach and south-facing Ventnor Beach, which is dotted with vintage beach huts. Dinosaur remains and fossils can be seen in areas like Compton Bay and Yaverland Beach. On the island’s western point, The Needles are 3 huge, white chalk rocks, guarded by a 19th-century lighthouse.

Poland

Vodka! For many, it’s better than the Russian one. Widely consumed in Poland, the national drink is a must-served on every Polish wedding or a birthday party. Former Pope John Paul II was Polish and the first non-Italian Pope to serve. The Wielickza Salt Mines includes rock salt chandeliers in the chapel. Auschwitz is a silent monument to remind the world of the Holocaust.

France: Morzine

Morzine is a ski resort in the French Alps, close to the Swiss border. It’s part of the 650Km Portes du Soleil ski area, linked by lifts and cable cars. Partially forested slopes have summer trails and bike lifts. The Col de la Joux Verte pass climbs from Morzine to the higher-altitude resort of Avoriaz, near the Hauts-Forts mountain. In the village, restaurants and bars cluster around Route de la Plagne.

UK: Cavalry at Sandhurst

Tent pegging is a race, usually a team race or relay, where a rider and horse aim to knock down a peg with a stick, or pick up a peg on a lance, as fast as possible. This historically emerged from the attacks by Arabian Muslim cavaliers on enemy camps at dawn or late night, where they would gallop to their tents and pluck out the pegs of their tents and setting them alight, so that these would collapse on them, thus causing havoc and terror in the camp.
